Fall?

I know that fall is not officially here, but in my mind, fall starts after Labor Day.  Yesterday and today, I am not so sure what happened ~ we've been having wonderful early fall-like weather and then bam....the heat and humidity have returned.

When I last posted, my older boys were starting a break from baseball and my youngest had one more tournament.  I am proud to say that they played hard, had fun and placed second!
The face of a boy that just scored a run!
After a few weeks off, we are back to practices and tournaments.  My two oldest competed this weekend.  The middle guy getting the job done...
My oldest was in the care of his teammates, so I have no pictures of him this time ~ the team placed 2nd out of 20 teams!
My middle guy also celebrated a birthday...
And the boys returned to school ~ I can't believe I have a 8th, 7th and a 4th grader!
And with the boys being back in school, my husband and I can enjoy some dates on the days he has off.  The first week, we ventured to Longwood Gardens.  It is definitely looking like fall there!

I can also return to getting some much needed girl~time by helping out at the Strawberry Sampler every now and again.  I was also able to see all the wonderful new things from market, and wow, my wish list has grown!
My stitching time and mojo has been running on low.  My latest start...and that's all I have to show...
And, I started to teach myself something new...
When my mother~in~law passed away, I became the keeper of her crochet hooks.  I decided it was time to get them out and give it a try.  I've got a long way to go, but hope to at least be able to make a few cloths and scarves.
And because I am ready for fall, here are some oldies, but goodies....

No post is complete without Panzer!
Our handsome boy needs a bigger ottoman...
Still missing Joker, and now missing his boys....

One thing I definitely learned this summer, is that teenagers are a mystery...and this quote somehow fits what I found to be true many times this summer...thanks to those of you that tell me there is a light at the other end of teenager~hood!
“If the person you are talking to doesn't appear to be listening, be patient. It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear.”

lol..having survived two lots of teenagers, now on my third (why I hought 5 and 6 year gaps between my kids were a good idea I shall never know!) I can promise they come out the other side; be consistent: let them learn actions have consequences and think of them as five foot toddlers rofl. Lovely pictures...love the lilly pads!

Lovely pics, Catherine. I am glad 'Fall' has started too, although the heat yesterday was no fun! The Longwood Gardens look beautiful. I will have to get there sometime.

It's always fun to see pictures of your sons and to see how they grow and get older. Congratulations to them for being so good with their sports teams. And Happy belated birthday to your middle son.
I'm sure that your stitching mojo will quickly come back now that you have some more time for yourself. And maybe crocheting will become your new craft. Who knows, lol.

What a great pic of Panzer! That expression is priceless. Happy Birthday to your son!
So nice to have some days out with your husband and getting back to the Strawberry Sampler. Maybe you will have some time to stitch too.
I hope the guys have a great school year!!

Nice to see all the photos, Panzer is soo big. I'm beginning to think boys are easier than girls...
You'll love crocheting, you can take it everywhere and you don't need a magnifier!
Panzer looks so sad! Enjoy your break! I hate getting up so early but I'm loving the attitude free home during the day :)

Hi Catherine. I love the photo of the butterfly. Longwood gardens is on our to visit list. :-) I like your stitching but I already told you that on instagram.;-) I have my special order waiting for me at TSS, so I am going to go pick it up today. Maybe I can pop in on one of the days you are working.

Your dogs face is so cute bless him.
Love your photos and your lovely autumn goodies hugs.

Your weather sounds a lot like ours. Great pictures of your boys - they grow up so fast, don't they? I enjoyed seeing your fall pieces. Do you think if we decorate and pull out all our fall things it will arrive quicker?

Happy Birthday to middle son.
Chain stitch is all that i can do when it comes to crochet.
Panzer looks huge sitting there and not moving for anyone, and the last one is so funny.
Nice pic of the Gardens.

It is always a pleasure to get caught up on your busy life, Catherine! Love the first day of school photos--I hadn't realized your older two were just a grade apart (no wonder they have their "moments!!").

I was only at Longwood Gardens once (in the rain!), but just loved our visit. Sure wish I lived a bit closer to get there more often...

Lovely photos, as always--the butterfly is stunning!! And your fall pieces are so nice--I think fall stitching is my favorite :)

Give Panzer lots of TLC--I'm sure the house is awfully quiet for him with the boys back in school!

lol! I love that quote from Pooh! Yes, teenagers are a mystery indeed. But I do have one thing to say -- be grateful you have boys!! They are much easier than girls, I promise! Love reading what you've been up to and your boys too. They are growing up fast, aren't they? Nice that you can have some dates just the two of you now that the boys are in school. Poor Panzer -- missing everyone. Mia has the same problem. Nice that you can work at Strawberry Sampler too! I'd be in big trouble if I worked at my LNS. lol!

hahaha! Love that quote, how perfect! I have to agree with Margaret on the girl thing too. I have three teens right now too. See why I am having gastritis?! jk

Can't wait for fall. Enjoy you little date days. Stitching is coming along nicely.

Oh what a funny post when you end with a photo like that! He's just sad he can't go to school with the boys. Speaking of boys, my they are teenagers indeed! Yes, they inhabit a different universe!;-)

Lovely long post, Catherine, with some great pics. Your boys look so handsome and don't worry you and they will get through those teenage years and they will come out the other side as wonderful young men. How could it be otherwise with you as their mum?
hugs, Kaye

Your butterfly and milkweed picture is just gorgeous! Your sons are cute even if mysterious - love the quote! Enjoy your fall days catching up on girl/stitching time.

Your boys are such cuties! I hope they are adjusting to the new school year well.

Panzer needs a cookie!

Your post really has me in the mood for fall now. Especially after these two days of heat and humidity.

I second Margaret's comment--be grateful you have boys. They tend to have a couple of difficult years at ages 11 and 14 but then the drama is done. With the girls it goes on and on and on!

Lots of nice photos today! I wish fall would come to our city but it's not here yet and probably a month away at least. I did Dog Lessons about 2 years ago for my nephew and his wife, it was a fun piece to stitch.

Darling quote from Pooh! Your sons are wonderful and love all the sports they are in. Hope you get to love every minute - they grow up too fast. Love your Fall oldies and LOVE that you are using your grandmothers hooks:) love Annette

Enjoy your crochet practice, it sure grows faster than the stitching does, I often need some instant gratification and knitting and crochet provide just that.

Great gardens you visited and I love the butterfly pic at the top of your post.

Your boys look very handsome young men, wishing then all well in their new school year.

I always love your posts!
The leaves are definitely starting to change here. Little bit exciting (I love fall) and a little bit sad.
Good luck with the crochet! I knew how to do it a bit a long, long time ago and it's quite fun. I have a soft spot in my heart for a good old fashion granny square afghan. Crochet definitely beats knitting when it comes to making blankets. :)

Catherine-- your boys are the cutest things ever!! Enjoy your free time now that they are in school! The garden photos are beautiful!! Good luck with learning crochet-- I've given up- I think I am a lost cause :)

A wonderful Happy Birthday Wish for your son! Isn't Longwood Gardens just wonderful? When our middle son attended college in PA, we always looked forward to our fall and spring visits to the gardens too.

It is reassuring to see that I am not alone, in finding that my "stitching mojo" has been at a dawdling pace recently.

Love the pics of your darling Panzer. What an expression!

Blessings!

Wonderful post Catherine. Happy Birthday to your middle boy. They grow up so fast! Love your autumn finishes even if they are from years before. Yay for starting crochet!! Youtube is a wonderful place for learning to crochet, it's where I learned how to make a granny square!! Give Panzer a snuggle for me!
