Dreaming...

Dreaming of warmer, sunnier days...
because after this past week, I am done with this...
We were fortunate and did not lose power during the great ice storm of 2014.  Many of our friends weren't so lucky.  Some regaining power after four days and others still waiting...our county was declared a disaster....I am done...
The boys were home 4 out of 5 days last week.  Due to the weather so far this winter, they haven't had a full week of school since back in December!
Even Panzer does not like the ice crusted snow ~ it's hard to get good traction action to take care of business.  He prefers snuggling and staying warm.
With as cold as it has been, I can't begin to imagine how it felt when my nieces participated in the Polar Plunge yesterday.  The water at Virginia beach was rough and a balmy 37 degrees...yikes!  My sister-in-law wasn't sure offhand of the exact amount, but over the past seven years, the girls have raised approximately $10,000 for the Special Olympics.  I couldn't be more proud!  A special thanks to Marie from Creative Thread for her donation to the cause!  The girls were extremely grateful ~ and, I will post a pic as soon as they send me one!

So, we are dreaming...dreaming of spring.  Ready to see the boys in action with baseball and triathlons.

I was doing good on trying to sneak in a little stitching time everyday, but then something came up.  I have been working as a substitute aide with a kindergarten student.  After his evaluations and IEP plan were developed, it was determined that he would require an aide through an outside company.  So, off I went....updating all of my clearances, finding transcripts, filling out applications, interviews, training, and testing.  End result is that I am hired and can continue to stay with this student through the rest of the year.  I still have some training modules to take, but am up and running.  My interaction with the student basically stays the same, except now there is paperwork involved.  My brain is tired...it's been a long time since I have had to study like that!
The stitching time I managed, was spent on this...just a few more stitches and it will be finished.

And thanks to Gillie, from Random Thoughts from Abroad, I had an unexpected surprise this week.  I had admired this sweet finish on her blog (if you aren't a follower, pop on over, you won't be disappointed) and it showed up in my mailbox along with some pretty red thread!
I love sheep ~ and this is too sweet ~ thanks again, Gillie!
(Sorry for the darkness of the pics, our days have been very grey and dreary.)

Yesterday we began the day with some birthday Baked French Toast for my oldest son,
followed by homemade chocolate cake with cream cheese icing....yum!

Thanks for stopping by...and a hello to my new followers!  Here's to dreaming of those warmer days... I leave you with the following quote in honor of all those athletes that participate in the Special Olympics...
“The things that make me different are the things that make me.”
― A.A. Milne

What a lovely post, Catherine!

I think everyone is sick of all that snow! I can't imagine being in a deep freeze for so long. Hang in there! Panzer has the right idea! ;-)

Congrats on your new job and the finish. Happy Birthday to your boy!

Glad you didn't lose power -- this winter has been wicked and I am so ready for it to be over! Oh love the sheep-y cushion -- so cute. And your BBD piece is looking great - I still have a ways to go on mine. More snow here today along with sub-freezing temps. Staying hunkered down, making a roast for dinner and doing some knitting and stitching. Can't wait for baseball season - pitchers and catchers report this coming Friday --Play ball!

Oh dear! I am sorry you have all that ice. I get so scared of falling again when we have ice. I am so sick of being THIS cold every day! yucko!

Oooh Catherine, we haven't had any snow this winter at all!! A few flakes and flutters but nothing to speak of. It is really very depressing. All we have is rain rain rain. xx

I'm glad you didn't lose power. You were so lucky! I'm so sick of this winter weather too. More storms coming they say. sigh. Love your stitching! Happy belated birthday to your oldest too!

Will the kids have to make up the missed days by going to school until July? We build in Weather Days into our school schedules for hurricanes. My sisters school was closed for 13 days one year before we did that. They stretched the day out a bit to help make up for it.

The icy tree photo is gorgeous! Is that some type of holly? It's stunning!

We lost power for almost 48 hours, but I managed to get some stitching in during the daylight hours. I have a new appreciation for these pioneer women working in front of the fireplace. Congrats on your new job. I worked a a speech therapist in the public schools so believe me, I know about paperwork. Our mantra was "document, document, document."

These ice-covered trees look so beautiful, but that's only one side of it, lol. I can easily understand that you've had enough of this long and cold and icy winter and are longing for spring. I'd feel the same if I lived at your place.

Great news about your new job. And so good that you can squeeze in a little bit of stitching. Such a lovely BBD piece.

Happy Birthday wishes to your DS.
A lovely project you have been working on.
Congrats on your study and being able to continue with your student.
Super little gift from Gillie.
The snow looks lovely, but I too am hoping spring is only around the corner, we've had way too much wet here.

Oh no, I saw on TV that the Villanova students were taking COLD showers...no heat there either I guess. PA got hit hard!
I was skiing when the girls were swimming. I am sure that I was much warmer all bundled up on the chair lift than they were during the polar plunge ~ Brrrr!
Congrats to them for being able to jump in!

Happy Birthday to your DS! How was that baked French toast? I am looking for a good recipe. :-)

Good luck with your new position at school. Hope that it is a rewarding school year for you.

Your stitching piece is wonderful, love the colors.

That little sheep pillow is adorable. That was very sweet of your friend.

Stay warm!

YAY for you and the new (and improved?) job. That little boy is very lucky to have you!
Oh my...your first born is growing too fast! Looks like he had a "sweet" birthday.
I thought of you quite often today as I was sunning myself on the beach.

What a neat opportunity to help that kindergartener. May you have extra patience doing so and may these cold winter days pass quicker for you.

Happy Birthday to your son. What a yummy day he had!
The ice storm looks nasty! I can't believe that they have closed school so much. I'm sure your kids are loving that. Will they have to extend the school year to make up the days?
Congrats to your nieces and raising so much for Special Olympics. That is wonderful.
I love your stitching too. Have a great one!

I love the glittery look after an ice storm - hate everything else associated with them. We're in the beginning stages of what may prove to be a huge mess-heavy wet snow and then ice. Belated birthday greetings to your son. That's a sweet ornament - the backing is perfect. Cheering you on to a finish.

To me your photos are gorgeous because we don't get any snow here in the Bay Area/ California. But I am sending you sunny wishes:) Lovely progress on your Beautiful sampler. And your almost done!!!
Fantaastic birthday cake!

I'm so behind on blog reading and now you've had yet another storm out your way, Catherine--you guys sure are getting dumped on this year. We only had an inch out of this latest storm. I'm so glad to hear you didn't lose power--I was worrying about you and a couple other Philly area blogging friends...

I'm glad to see you're still finding a bit of time to stitch with your new job. It will be nice to have some extra stash money, won't it? Of course, then you need the time to stitch--at least you'll get some in the summer (although if they keep having snow days, they'll be in school until July!!).

Happy Birthday to your son--looks like he was thoroughly spoiled with your yummy cake and French Toast. I'm sure you can hardly believe he has gotten so old already :)

Hope that is the end of your snow for a while--hang in there!

Terribly behind on my blog reading, but I have seen your Instagram posts!! I love those photos of the snow but I'm with you and want winter gone! That's so great you are working with a little one in Kindergarten. It's exhausting isn't it but so rewarding. Wonderful BBD finish and that gift from Gillie is adorable!
