Life has been happening. That is the reason I have for being away from my blog and stitching for so long. I have been keeping up with your blogs as best I can, not always leaving comments, but please know that you are part of my day when I take some time to sit and have a break with my cup of Chai!
My boys have kept me busy. We are finally wrapping up the school year, thanks to all of those snow days! It's a bittersweet ending...my oldest will be entering high school next year. I'm excited for him and sad for myself all at once. The last fourteen years have passed so quickly, I can only imagine how fast the next four will go!!
Baseball is still going on for my oldest. He plays until the end of July.
And this year, my youngest put baseball to the side to train for triathlons. Well, I am so proud to report that in his first triathlon ever, he placed 4/7 in his age group and 25/63 overall. On the way home, he commented that he felt good about himself ~ it was a mommy moment!
He loved it so much, he competed again the following weekend and placed 3/7 in his age and 14/33 overall! He was so excited to place third and it made my husband's Father's Day even more special!
There are two more triathlons in this series, one in July and one in September. I think it is safe to say he has found his sport! And he says it is better training for a future Navy SEAL!
One thing is for sure ~ triathlons make for one hungry boy!
We've also celebrated our 21st anniversary and my husband's birthday ~ again, time passing by in a flash! Oh, and I finally finished all 43 hours of my training and have about a month left of my six month probationary period.
I wanted to share some news about my niece, Kellen. You may remember that she has William's Syndrome. Well, last August, she started painting, working with a local artist in Fredericksburg, VA where they live. I sent her my favorite sheep picture and look how fantastic she did!! I told her if she ever sells it, it's mine!! I will share some more of her paintings in future posts.
Kellen also competed in the Special Olympics playing tennis and taking gold for singles and doubles!
On to the stitching...
There has been very little stitching and a couple of lovely gifts.
Yep, there it is...my little bit of stitching! Actually, I have also been trying to finish a gift for another niece who just graduated high school. It is a piece I won from Kim at Wisdom with Needle and Thread at the beginning of the year. I thought I had plenty of time and well, she graduated Tuesday night ~ I am almost done the stitching and then I need to assemble and will share a picture when it is done.
I received these goodies from Julie at Julie's Knit Sew Craft Corner. It was a complete surprise and made my day! I love the sunflower cushion and all the extras will come in handy for finishing. Thank you so much, Julie ~ I love sunflowers and the ladybug makes it even sweeter!
June, of Butterfly Wings, sent me a beautiful gift for my birthday. Not only is her stitching and finishing beautiful ~ but it brought back memories of my grandmother with its smell, like roses, just like a powder that my grandmother used many years ago.
Thank you, June. I will treasure it always!
I will sign off now with some random pics from the last few weeks...enjoy!

I am thankful for my boys that keep me running, my husband who is my rock, and to all of my friends for being there!

Beautiful photos and so much fun..
Sending you hugs x
Busy boys make a happy mom? ;-)
I'm so glad your niece has taken to painting. Often painting is an incredible outlet. She is very talented!
Lovely gifts and that Panzer looks like a big bear (cuddly I mean).
Yay! I am so glad to get caught up with you and your family. Your son is so motivated, that is wonderful.
Triathlons are so difficult! You should be very proud of your youngest for finding his thing. And the oldest moving up to high school. Amazing, isn't it? I still remember when that happened with my two. 14 seems too young -- I went to a 3 year junior high school. lol! enjoy the rest of the summer! Mia says hi to Panzer!
Lots of good things going on in your post! So happy your son found his love of triathlons. My husband has done a few of them - more recently mud runs have captured his attention.
Wow - your niece is an amazingly talented artist!
Wow, all your boys are real athletes, it's great to see that also the youngest has found his sport and is fully enjoying it.
And so great to see how your niece's talent shows and unfolds. The sheep she painted looks fantastic. Looking forward to seeing more of her painting.
Have a great summer.
Your post was worth waiting for! Happy belated birthday and anniversary and congrats to your boys for all their accomplishments.
My Nitty (Serenity) does not like her picture taken. She looks away from the camera every time. Panzer takes great photos! He looks like a gentle giant. Nitty had breast cancer this year and had to have one removed and I pray it doesn't come back. She is my last Rott as I am 65 and getting too old to run after a pup and train it like I have all my others.
Your niece is amazing and I too love that painting. She could sell them for sure! This is a busy time of year for everyone I think. I've given up FB and T.V. except for You Tube when I am too tired to do anything else at night. LOL! Have a great Summer!
You have been busy!! Congratulations to your son for not only his finishes but making the commitment and carrying through - good job Mom and Dad!! Your niece really does have a wonderful talent, I would certainly buy her sheep painting. very pretty gift.
Thanks for sharing. Live your family, including pooch, pics. Do you mind to share the chart name for the gift your received from Wisdom? Thanks

Catherine: I love the sheep painting, she is talented, good luck to your niece.

Happy, happy anniversary!!!!! :)
Triathlons are soooooo hard. Good on him! That's amazing. :)
Your sons are quite impressive with their athletics! And that sheep painting is just lovely
Oh, my--a triathlete in the family!!! That is so impressive, Catherine--I would definitely fail at the swimming portion. So glad your youngest is enjoying it AND doing so well!
And the sheep painting by your niece is incredible--I can see why you would want it for your own!
I don't think I could have maintained a blog when my sons were your sons' ages--truly. It is such a crazy, busy time in their lives and you are running them in twenty different directions. No matter how infrequently you post, I always look forward to seeing your lovely photos and catching up with your news!
Enjoy your weekend--busy as it may be :)
Life goes by rather quickly, doesn't it? We are in the same stage. My oldest is a senior next year, my husband and I just has our 21sf anniversary too. It's good and bad. I know in a fee short years we will be empty nesters, which is scary and wondeful at the same time!
Your boys look like they are doing great. Congrats to your triathlon son! That is not an easy task to complete.
Have a great summer! I hope you got more moments to stitch soon.
Congratulations to your son for his wonderful triathlon accomplishment, very impressive!
I assure you, you will never believe how quickly those HS years are going to fly by!
Wow, wow, wow...Kellen is so talented. Seriously, her sheep is amazing! I would love to see more pics of her artwork.
Such thoughtful gifts from Julie and June. Happy belated birthday!
