Taste of Spring

We are finally having a taste of spring and how refreshing that is!  Not that we had a terribly cold and snowy winter, I am just ready for spring.
Last Sunday found me with my middle guy on a hike for some of the boys in his scout group.  We went to a trail that we had not hiked before and it will be one we visit again.  There were many of nature's things and some man made remnants that caught my eye.  Hope you don't mind that I share a few.
Do you see that stone wall in distance? Curiosity kicked in and we hiked a bit faster.

Stones and bricks...love the combination.
Remnants of the old fireplace.
The boys will love exploring here in the summer!
Further down the trail were more stones..

This creek will provide hours of entertainment for my boys this summer.  We spotted many great swimming holes along the way.
And finally, my middle guy, with his "please don't take another picture of me" face.
He also had his first year band performance.  He decided to give up the Cello and started the trumpet this year and he really seems to enjoy it.

The post brought some wonderful smelling goodies in the mail this week.  Autumn, from Whispers of Autumn, had a giveaway.  One for chocolates, and one for chocolate smelling goodies.  I received the smellies!
This lotion definitely smells chocolaty and is hard to use when one is craving chocolate!  She is having another giveaway for a Chocolate cookbook and some chocolates, so hurry on over!

The stitching has been completed on a project for my mother.  The pattern is from Pineberry Lane and is called Treasured Blossoms Pinkeeps.
It took some time practicing, but I think I finally got over my fear of French knots, but only after some choice words mixed in with some ripping out and starting over!

I moved the bottom line of the chart down just enough so I could place the married initials of myself, my mother, my grandmother and my great~grandmother.
Now to pick the frame!  I am planning on this being her Mother's Day gift she may just get it early though.

I am almost done with the stitching for my exchange piece, but can't show that yet.  Don't want to spoil the surprise!  And I must get going on the ornament for March.  I am thankful I am doing this ornament a month with June, otherwise, I may have given up by now!

Time to go enjoy the Spring~like weather we are having today!

Great photos! I agree, even though we've had an incredibly mild winter (they are calling it the winter that wasn't around here - LOL) I am happy for Spring. Your stitching looks wonderful. It a great feeling to finish up a project and then we can give ourselves permission to start another piece or 2 or 3. Love the quote - it has a very Ogden Nash or ee cummnings feel - I love their wacky poetry.

Looks like you found an incredible place to hike and hang out for a while. Where was that located?

Your finish is beautiful. Wish I could get over my hatred of those knots. I just don't have the patience for them I guess, lol!

What a great spot for hiking and exploring! And on a very hot day, how good will it feel under the canopy of leaves and by the water - ahhh... Your mom is going to love her family memories piece, and your son is also making family memories! Kudos to all.

I love finding remnants of what once was. We had places like that behind us when we first moved to KY. It was great fun exploring them!

Love your finish and it looks like you mastered the French knot!
I know your mom will be very touched with the way you personalized it.

I think Spring has sprung!!

Love the hiking pictures! I looked at the mushrooms for a moment, thinking they were arrowheads stuck in the tree. Duh--can you tell I live in a city? The Pineberry Lane design is lovely, and yay, you, for the successful French knots (I love FK's, but my nemesis is queen stitches, so I know how you feel.)

And your gift for your mom is so pretty--I hope she doesn't read your blog so it's a surprise for her on Mother's Day!

I hope your middle guy enjoys the trumpet enough to continue. That's what my middle one played, too :)

Enjoy your week now...

What a lovely hike - and all for free! When we take the children out nowadays it seems we have to spend a fortune on entrance fees! :0(
I wonder who used to reside in the house that you found? Curiosity would get the better of me and I'd simply HAVE to find out!
The stitching for your mum is lovely - I wish I could get over my fear of French knots. I don't even attempt to do them now - I use beads every time!

What a wonderful adventure, finding all of those old remnants of what used to be someone's home years ago. I always loved hiking through the woods, discovering so many interesting places to explore.

Your dear mother is going to love the beautiful "memories" piece you have stitched for her. It is really special.

That is simply like walking on the moors around Haworth and seeing Top Withens standing desolate and alone. I just love the Bronte Sisters. :-)

This was a beautiful place and I can see why you would want to return.

The piece is just beautiful and I am sure mother will love it!

Hugs from Holland ~
Heidi ... who apologizes as I really owe you an email.
