I joined the TUSAL being hosted by It's Daffycat. Today is the day that we have to show our picture of our ort jars. Mine is not fancy, just a jelly jar. Here it is with all my orts that I have collected since last spring:
And here they are all puffed up on the floor:
I emptied it last night and started adding new - looks a little empty doesn't it?
I will save the threads. Last spring I spread them throughout my garden, hanging them from shrubs and branches, for my bird friends to use when building their nests. This year I will use an idea I saw in a magazine and put them in an empty suet feeder. The birds just pull out the threads as they choose. This will work for yarn pieces too if you are a knitter!
I also wanted to share a few goodies I won before the holidays.
I was lucky enough to win some fabric squares from BBD. They will come in handy for finishing smalls - they are tiny, so I will have to piece them together for most finishing projects.
Donna from By the Bay Needleart had a contest on her blog to name her newest pattern. I gave it a go. My suggestion seemed too simple compared to some of the others, so you can imagine how excited I was when she chose mine! It is a sweet pattern and I may start this one during our next snow!
Not much stitching progress last night. Have you ever had one of those nights where your thread keeps twisting and turning and knotting? The needle had a mind of its own and did not like being threaded. And, I am running low on the chosen thread for my "Live Simply" stitch, so a trip to the Strawberry Sampler is in order some time this week. (Okay - that part is really fun - not a problem at all!)
Thanks again for stopping by! I really enjoy reading all of your wonderful comments!

I joined the TUSAL too. My first time. Luckily my stitching during holiday break let me have something to put in it!
Enjoy your goodies. I love it!
Oh you lucky! Winning both those giveaways! I liked your name for the new By the Bay piece. You're also lucky to live close to the Strawberry Sampler. I'd love to visit it someday -- heard it's a good shop.
Oh your post reminds me I need to update my TUSAL...better go home at lunch and take photos so I can blog! lol Congrats on your wins! I like the name of the BtBN design. Very appropriate! Have fun at Strawberry Sampler!
Lovely By the Bay Needleart Design and I love the name you chose... congratulations on winning both giveaways!
Lovely stitching and family photos... it's always a pleasure stopping by...
Wishing you much joy, love, good cheer and blessings abounding and loads of peaceful stitching thyme in the New Year...
I had that problem with knots and misbehaving needles while I was working on Willow Trees Sampler. I finally just cut my losses (literally) and wondered why I had wasted so much time trying to untangle the knot. Floss is just about the cheapest part of this hobby! :)
Oh I wish we could have connected while I was in that area. Problem is I usually only have a second in time to "connect"!!
I love your idea of putting your threads in your garden and trees. I have a huge jar of ORT's and that would be a nice thing to do with them.
Congratulations on your wins - those look like great prizes. Nice Orts! LOL
I love the idea of putting the orts in a suet feeder! I definitely want to do that this spring.
I love that Prairie Schooler winter piece you are finishing up. I don't remember that one so I'll have to search for the chart.
What nice giveaway wins and what nice orts!! Great colours and the birds will love them!
Great ideas for using your ORTS. Congratulations on your wins.
Beautiful 2010 ORTs! And a great start on 2011! Thanks for joining my SAL!
Hi Catherine, love your idea of letting the birds have your threads. I had heard of someone else doing that but couldn't think of what to use so that the threads didn't blow away and were easy for the birds to get at it.
This is my first time as a TUSAL member. Looking forward to seeing all the ORTs build up over the year
